TI 2026 European qualifier chaos: NAVI and Nigma win on day one, but the real drama is off-server

The International 2026 European qualifier is underway with Spirit, Nigma Galaxy, and NAVI taking early wins. Meanwhile, LGD Gaming secured South America's lone spot, and Miposhka returns as Spirit's coach.

TI 2026 qualifiers are in full swing across multiple regions, and the European bracket — as usual — is an absolute warzone.

Day one of the European qualifier saw the expected favorites hold serve. Team Spirit opened with a clean 2-0 victory, looking every bit the defending Major champions. Nigma Galaxy, now with SumaiL in the carry role and Lorenof in mid, also secured their first win. SumaiL’s transition back to carry has been rocky at times, but when he’s locked in, he’s still one of the most dangerous players in the world. NAVI rounded out the day’s winners with a solid performance.

But the real story might be what’s happening off-server. Miposhka has returned to Team Spirit as coach ahead of the European qualifier. His departure last year was acrimonious, to put it mildly, so this reunion raises questions. Is this a genuine reconciliation or a marriage of convenience because Spirit need results ahead of TI? Either way, Miposhka’s strategic mind was a key part of Spirit’s Shanghai Major run, and his return could be the catalyst they need.

Over in South America, LGD Gaming sealed their TI 2026 spot in dominant fashion — losing just one game throughout the entire qualifier. That’s a statement. LGD have been China’s second-tier DOTA2 organization for years, always in PSG.LGD’s shadow, but this qualifier run proves they belong on the international stage. They’ll join Xtreme Gaming and PSG.LGD (both directly invited) as China’s three representatives in Shanghai.

The Southeast Asian bracket is where things get spicy. OG — yes, that OG, the legendary organization that’s been through a rough patch — opened their TI 2026 SEA qualifier campaign with a sweep over InterActive Philippines. They then followed it up with a sweep over GLYPH. OG’s all-Filipino lineup with Raven back in the fold has the SEA DOTA2 community excited. Whether they can maintain this momentum against the region’s top teams remains to be seen.

China also confirmed two more qualifiers: Team Resilience and Vici Gaming will join Xtreme Gaming as the host nation’s representatives. All three Chinese teams will play TI in front of their home crowd at the Oriental Sports Center in August.

The International 2026 runs August 17-22 in Shanghai. The prize pool sits at $45 million base, with the crowdfunding push expected to add significantly more. The question isn’t who’s going to TI — it’s who’s going to peak at exactly the right moment.

Europe’s qualifier runs for several more days, and with four spots up for grabs, the margin for error is zero. One bad series and a team’s TI dreams could be over.
